The Storm Is Brewing
Posted: 18th May 2010
Now that the end of the semester is approaching, (I am still studying *ugh*) I’m beginning to realize just how difficult juggling life can be. It all seemed so easy, 2 days off/week to focus on my studies whilst still making somewhat reasonable money, but the rigours of study and with upcoming assessment deadlines, as well as work schedule to take heed of, I’ve come to the realisation that this is a not so good idea.
The fine balancing act of keeping somewhat reasonable grades as well as ensuring that I turn out work of an acceptable quality (I refuse to lower my standards to improve my averages), is becoming more and more difficult, and is taking quite a toll on my physical health; recently diagnosed with Pneumonitis I’ve been out of action for nearly a month and I find that this was exactly what I needed. Burnout is quite a common problem and this may have just stemmed the tide a little.
Only a few weeks left of this juggling act to go, and I am doubtful I can keep all these balls off the ground come June, I just hope the ones I drop are not the ones that matter.

You make burning out sound like sweet relief – although I’m sure that’s not your intention.
Juggling [career-oriented] work & uni can be real test of endurance both physically and mentally.
I frequently wish I didn’t have to deal with work when uni gets going (and boy is it in full swing these days!); and I feel downright guilty when I’m at the gym while there are assignments pending… But I guess a few years of infinate commuting, endless studying, ludicrously priced textbooks, frequently late nights, ridiculously early starts and inane amounts of caffeine justify the ends – and let’s face it, two 3 month semesters per year isn’t that bad.
Hang in there Aris – and good luck with your exams mate!
My immediate reaction is how did you find this website?
and I have been hanging in there, which I beleive is the root of the problem.
and every hour I spend at University I am losing ground on my financial goals.
(Knowing how to use a GANTT Chart and memorizing PERT Formula’s is not going to help me buy a Château, or a Bierpalast, time spent not making money is time wasted)
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=sataris – you’re ascending!
With the relative lack of a rigid schedule these days my financial goals are in tatters too, what with excessive petrol usage/toll charges/cheap and nasty food/coffee/V/(the list goes on)…
And who knows, that GANTT chart could be the difference between life and death for that $xxm project you might find yourself working on some day – it might not translate directly into a château but I’m sure it won’t hurt.
